For 10 or more years, I have deployed learning management systems. I was able to help schools offering K12 programs/curriculum. Mostly, I was able to deploy and support a learning management system for higher education institutions (HEIs). I started in 2009 and was able to customize and configure an open-source Learning Management System based on the requirements of the HEI. Support included training teachers and students on the operation of the learning management system.

My expertise is in creating lesson plans and worksheets; especially, writing worksheets. Last time when we had an inspection, I had helped a few of my colleagues create their lesson plans in subjects different from mine. I love exploring new AI platforms that might help teachers in saving some of their time.

To find your niche as an Edtech mentor, consider your passions, expertise, and the needs of your target audience. Ask yourself: What subjects or skills are you most knowledgeable about and passionate about teaching?

Educators and those involved educational technology are life-long learners. Find communities where you can learn and then eventually start to write your own blog posts, articles, or participate in online forums related to EdTech. Sharing your expertise establishes you as a thought leader in the field. Showcase your past experiences integrating EdTech in educational settings. Document successful implementations to demonstrate your skills and effectiveness.Try to establish a presence on social media for your business or company events to expand your audience and meet new people.

Expertise is the essential ingredient of an EdTech mentor. A serial EdTech founder is helpful because they have knowledge of good moves and mistakes. In my case, I'm a user and a buyer of EdTech products and have a background in software to boot.

To build your credibility as an EdTech mentor, consider creating content related to education, technology, and learning strategies. Share your expertise through blog posts, videos, or social media.

My approach depends on whether I am working online or in person. I prefer to work remotely with international people, one-on-one or in groups. I can mentor both formally and informally. As a professional coach, I prefer to receive a fee as it cements a more professional relationship. The relationship I develop will be built on trust and mutual benefit - in other words, I can learn a great deal from my mentees and them learning from me. It's also important to have fun and brighten the sessions with clearly defined aims to foster a sense of achievement. I always ask, 'what is your purpose in life?' This opens up discussions and brings amazing results.

I have found that technology is our friend when it comes to mentoring. My favorite way to mentor is to start off with in-person groups, (I record for asynchronous learning for those that attended to review, or for others who have "heard through the grapevine" ) then I do one-on-one check-ins (informal) and then I'm able to help with specific needs.

I run a LinkedIn newsletter called 'Study/Learning Well-being/Wellness,' and values are something I always challenge. The mentee's value system needs to be considered at the outset, and clear goals—both personal and professional—should be set together. The important factor is getting to know each other quickly and the mentee getting to know themselves in depth.

To truly deliver value as an EdTech mentor, focus on providing guidance, feedback, and support tailored to your mentees' learning and professional goals. This involves setting clear, achievable expectations, developing a structured and personalized plan, sharing best practices and resources, challenging and motivating your mentees, and celebrating their progress. Leveraging various tools and methods, such as video calls, chat apps, emails, surveys, and online courses, can enhance the mentoring experience, making it more interactive and effective.

As I always say, a teacher, tutor or a mentor is not just educating, they themselves are learners and hold similar stakes within a journey as a student does. Now this is where we all grow together and water our own trees in different ways. I always showcase my ‘teaching’ journey as a ‘learner’.

Learning is fun when you relate things to real life and stitch it around a storyline. This will help your mentees get connected to topic and the impact is long lasting.

You must always know your target audience. In education, you must always consider the learner and the ones who teaches! School budgets cannot keep pace with the rate of technological change. Thus, it is critically important to choose projects that are truly impactful for most stakeholders.

So what you do best with passion. Don’t because you enjoy it. Don’t do it for others or others gratification. Stay true to yourself.
