In my experience online community such as LinkedIn is a huge platform to connect with network security professionals easily. There are many ways to expand network on LinkedIn. That is by sharing meaningful content to get visibility, interacting with others on their posts, reaching out to mentors to get support or advice, looking out for networking events on LinkedIn. The point is to be involved as much as possible and be kind and respectful to everyone.

I'd look on LinkedIn, go to trade shows, and reach out to people you have trained/schooled with. These methods have all been successful for me across job functions. Find a mentor just to bounce ideas off of. Don't be afraid to add people into your network on social media, the benefits far outweigh the discomfort of reaching out. Worse they can say is no. Rejection means nothing.

I’d recommend joining study groups and relevant groups on LinkedIn and try to post regularly a couple of times per week - mixing up from posting on your own profile and also in relevant groups too. Study groups are a great place to meet new people and share ideas and discuss best practices with likeminded colleagues. Udemy is great for learning a new skill, but connect with the author’s social media pages and network - it all helps to broaden your horizons. Events are another option - I’m based in the UK and often go to London and Manchester for IT conferences and cybersecurity events.

I’ve engaged with ISC2 and its community but also with CompTIA also. Coupled with training support groups for these organisations of which there are many on LinkedIn and Facebook. Having a membership with the likes of ISC2 shows your commitment to the good cause and principles these providers portray and the constant development and core principles of their being.

Seek out mentors -- You might be surprised at how willing seasoned professionals will give their time to others who ask. I always try to spend quality time with those who ask, just as others have consistently done for me in the past, and current.
