You want to expand your network. How can you use strategic thinking to make it happen?

My strategy for networking is to first determine where my target audience will most likely be online or in person and make sure to be there. Next I determine what they will be most interested in by researching trends and reading online. Then I build questions around that so I can start good conversations while networking. Based on all of that, I figure out the best answer for someone asking me "What do you do?" And I make sure my answer intrigues so the conversation can continue. My goal in networking is to get the other person talking enough so that I learn whether we will be a good connection for the future.

To expand your network strategically, define clear objectives, identify key contacts, research and prioritize connections, create a networking plan, utilize online platforms, attend events, offer value, follow up consistently, seek mentorship, and evaluate and adjust your strategy. By focusing on building meaningful relationships, providing value, and staying proactive, you can effectively grow your network and create new opportunities for personal and professional development.

You net worth is your network, it is rightly said. I would definitely suggest the following points in building a network. A) Purpose - Long term B) Objective - Short term C) Outcome - The result D) Audience - Who you want to forge a relation with. And relation would be relevant where there is a mutual interest. We should nature a relation where you are also ready to contribute to other benefit.

Firstly, is there a niche network where more of the people you would like as either clients or introducers hang out? If you can get a membership list. Or if it's an ad hoc event, can you get a delegate list? Either way try a few. Then think about what you can give to those you meet. Firstly, give them your ears and listen to them. Don't just launch into a pitch. Get to know them. Focus on developing a relationship with those who are relevant, but prefer those you actually like. And set yourself a long term goal. Add people who you have met to your phone contacts, tagged as for example "My Network". Check in with them. If you've promised an introduction or referral, make sure you follow through and do it. Book 1-2-1 meetings. Enjoy it!

Networking is creating mutual benefits, not just looking for people who can help fulfill your targets. Where are the people who you can help with their targets and in the same time help you with yours, creating benefit and value for all? Can collaborate with others who have similar targets than you?

You can never just to your initial strategies and run your business. As times evolve, so do the requirements and hence, your audience. You need to reinvent your strategies based on how your audience is changing and the best way for that is to engage with them to understand their mindset.

I have defined my audience step by step. First I networked with rotarians and JCI people round the world, because I belong to both organizations. The came recruiting people and after that people from target organizations I would like to work. In addition to that there might some other interesting people.

Servant leadership networking is often overlooked. I used to call it. Give first networking. Bob Berg likes to say people do business with people they know like and trust. How can you build trust if you're not giving more than you're getting? Find people that you don't mind being around that might know the people that you need to know and instead of asking them to help you, ask them how you can help them and shine at helping them. You will build a bridge of trust and a relationship. If they are the right people then they will ask you "How can I help you?"
