One other important thing is that as a leader you need not wait for someone else to acknowledge or affirm your leadership, you just have to believe in yourself and your simple principle of putting teams goals above personal goals. That obviously means that you do whatever is required to achieve your team’s goals and make your team the winning team.

Find a mentor in your field. Explain your goals to them. If possible, watch them closely, particularly w.r.t how they approach people and problems. Be as elaborate as you can with them about the challenges you are facing and your approach towards them. Be open to their feedback, incorporate their suggestions, and repeat the process.
