I have been exploring different software or we can call it tools to achieve certain results for uran scale projects. I am sure there are plenty of tools lying across wanting to be used. it's the need of this time to adapt to a BIM enabled software to have information filled content and also a GIS tool that carries a geographical information that's indeed another necessity. One of my choise of software for BIM is Graphisoft Archicad which is a complete BIM authoring tool. For GIS it's ArcGIS. I would also go for open source tools if considering from a student or research perspective. Both Blender and FreeCAD have shown greater results to be an open source BIM tool. QGIS would also be another choice as an open source GIS tool.

Step 0: figure out the right 'workflow' of your process. How do your macro analyses contextualize at the concept stage? Do you rely on manual ideation first? How do you model the conceptual ideas in 2D and 3D? How do you intend to visualize these ideas? What other ways can you integrate into the process to further consolidate the idea? (4D modeling, narrative enhancement, etc.) Once you figure out the right process, you then will be able to choose the right software(s)!
