In my experience, code reviews are an excellent way to improve software craftsmanship. Good unit and integration tests will confirm your code behaves as expected. However, good code reviews provide opportunities for you to optimize CPU resources, improve performance, improve maintainability, improve security, and help your fellow software engineers onboard to your software implementation efficiently.

Learn from the mentor's experience, seek feedback and leverage their insights to accelerate your growth. 3. Develop soft skills which are needed for mentoring juniors. 4. Seek opportunities to get hand on with real world projects. Collaborate with other departments to gain experience. 5. Gain experience from different domains and technologies to broaden your skills. 6. Take help from your manager to assign project that you can lead. 7. Commit to lifelong learning and professional development. 8. Stay humble and have empathy, and open to feedback.

To become a senior software engineer, learn from experienced engineers and understand clean code principles. Read their code, join code reviews, and seek feedback. Stay updated with new approaches and try to implement them. Join communities, find mentors, and engage with peers to improve your skills and adopt best practices.

The defining part of being a senior software engineer is being able to work on problems that are beyond the scope of things that you can solve as an individual - you shouldn't be working by yourself. You should be able to approach ambiguous problems, define the best solution for them given practical constraints, and then break down the tasks involved to build the solution into smaller, well-defined pieces that more junior engineers can complete.

Given that the complex problems you're working on require both communicating with non-engineers to understand the requirements and constraints and working with other engineers to make sure everyone is aligned as you work on a solution, communication is essential. You should not only be able to speak and write clearly, but help to provide communication frameworks (such as design review templates, meeting agendas, etc) so that a large-scale technical project can move forward effectively.
