Starting with an internship, apprenticeship, or as an employee in a smaller organization (<2,000 employees} will give you exposure to multiple areas of the field, which will allow you to determine if you want to specialize in a particular area or become a generalist. Experience is key in HR and you will likely not gain the experience needed to address a variety of situations in even a year or two or even more. Communication, oral and written, is essential no matter if you are a specialist or generalist. And, staying current on best practices and legal developments affecting your workforce and business is also important.

Continuous learning can help you improve your HR training and development abilities. Keep up with industry changes, attend workshops, and obtain appropriate credentials. Develop a thorough grasp of adult learning concepts and instructional design. Actively use technology to investigate e-learning platforms and tools. Seek mentoring and join knowledge-sharing networks. Practical expertise in planning and delivering training programs is vital. I made the jump from generalist HR to Learning & Talent Development back in 2-15. As a specialty of HR, both SHRM and ATD are great resources - consider joining both if you can. This can help you start getting experiences that matter on your resume. Ideally, get a coach or mentor with broad learning and talent development experience.

Whenever we read Training and Development it shows the equal value of this both the words TRAINING and DEVELOPMENT.
