I would give the students some assignment that can be done in small group of 2 to 4 and give some interest topic which can be answered in their own creative way and then concentrate on each group or even each individual while the others are fully engaged in their creative project

I am a big group activity type of teacher. I was introduced to the topic of cooperative teaching and since then this is the way I ensure as a language teacher to give more time to students to talk and it gives me time too to focus on individual students easily.

*Group Work: Have students work together on a task or challenge. *Quick Games: Set up short quizzes or trivia games on the topic. *Stations: Create different activities (e.g., reading, puzzles) for students to rotate through. *Peer Help: Let students help each other with tasks or explain things to each other. *Creative Time: Give them time to draw, write a story, or act out a lesson. *Mindfulness Breaks: Lead short stretches or breathing exercises to refocus. *Technology: Let them use educational apps or websites for learning. *Hands-on Activities: Use building blocks, models, or crafts related to what they're learning. *Movement: Play a quick song or dance break to keep energy high.

In my programming classes, after discussing a concept, I give students quick, focused assignments based on it. While they work on the task, I walk around the room, giving extra attention to students who need more help. For example, after teaching loops, I might challenge them to 'Print numbers from 1 to 10'. As they begin, I observe their progress, and if I spot a student struggling, I sit with them to identify where they’re stuck and I guide them through fixing the error. To keep others engaged, I add a new challenge for early finishers, like 'Now try printing only odd numbers or creating a countdown'. This approach allows me to support individual students while keeping the whole class active and learning.

To keep students engaged while giving individual attention, one needs to establish clear expectations and encourage independence, offer differentiated tasks that cater to varied learning styles, enabling students to work independently on interesting assignments. Setting up learning stations with diverse activities keeps students focused and involved. Moreover, one needs to encourage peer collaboration to foster teamwork and problem-solving, assigning roles to ensure active participation, monitor the room subtly to acknowledge students’ efforts, reinforcing their engagement. Teaching students self-sufficiency builds responsibility, creating a culture of engagement and focus even when you’re assisting others individually.
