Oops. I did it again. I'm a manager who took credit for the work of a direct report. No worries. I'll rebuild trust with this person by...doing the same thing again. And then I'll do it again. This works because by reinforcing the same behavior again and again I can create "the gaslight effect" whereby eventually the employee won't remember that it was their idea in the first place. After a while they'll be handing over credit to me themselves! The human mind is malleable. It's easy to hack. Especially if you're a leader with the power of Oops.
