From my experience, I have come across many such personalities who lag behind their deadlines. When closely observed, I realized, they are "Attention seekers", who want to bag all credit to themselves. They get into an insecure mode, when someone else pitches into their domain. When you are in a dilemma about the "accolades" vs "Quality work and Deadlines", always prioritize the latter, this will add real value to your career journey. Maintain good relationship across peers. Learn to appreciate people and working in teams. Never fall into the trap of "its my problem", rather brainstorm with peers and sort it out. This way you share your capacity constraints and ensure deadlines are never missed.

If you are a junior banker, my genuine advice would be to let your senior bankers do the prioritization for you. What do I mean by that? Well, if you have two projects with conflicting deadlines from two different senior bankers, you don't really want to be the one to tell either person that you can't work on their project first. So instead, let your two senior bankers duke it out amongst themselves. Go to them and explain that you're happy to work on either project, but they have conflicting deadlines and obviously you can only work on one at a time. Ask them to help you prioritize which one is more important. Usually the more senior person of the two will win, and the more junior person will let you off the hook and go get help elsewhere.
