When it comes to the best text editing tools for coding and programming languages, Visual Studio Code (VS Code) stands out as the top choice. This is almost like an invitation to start a flame war. ?? Jokes aside, I have slowly transitioned to neovim from using Vim bindings in Sublime Text. I know everyone is using VS Code nowadays, and I'm not going to try to convince anyone to switch. Switching to Vim has steep learning curve, and after paying the price, I think it was well worth it. The most attractive thing about it is how effortlessly easy it is to work in it once you have the shortcuts in your muscle memory, and how customizable it is. Plus, with lazy and other plug-ins, you get pretty much every capability including Copilot right in your command line editor.

In terms of features and especially customization. most of you are probably using Visual Studio Code already and I've found it to be the most feature-heavy editor for beginners with extensive documentation and a very intuitive user interface. Bundle it with the relevant extensions for your programming language and perhaps an AI assistant like GitHub Copilot or Tabnine and you just can't ask for anything else.

Definitely VS Code, without a doubt. It offers multiple features to boost productivity, such as syntax highlighting, bracket matching, and more. It also has user-friendly keyboard shortcuts, easy customization, and a variety of extensions to enhance productivity. VS Code supports numerous programming languages for mobile, web development, and beyond. It's definitely my preferred editor.

Same as everyone else VS Code stands at top for language support due to available extension plugins available. And switching between programmes or languages is just an extension away.

With expansive and extensible support for syntax-highlighting any language or file format I'm likely to ever use it easily replaced Visual Studio, and the simplicity of managing the tool itself makes it a much better choice for me than Eclipse.

JetBrains IDEs have a visual mode for interacting with Git, which eliminates the need for other software, including GitKraken. Additionally, these software have a local history feature that records changes to your files in real-time, allowing you to be aware of your previous codes even without Git.

Working in big projects and your text editor is not providing the version controlling feature then your life is going to be very tough. Even a single space matters and your text editor should able to track exact file, line and changes

Any Jetbrain IDEs are exceptionally good. I tried using it on VS Code, and it doesn’t even close compared to Jetbrain IDEs. Another alternative is Gitkraken, which is very good or even better than jetbrain IDEs but i still prefer to do it directly on my IDE, so it’s been a while since i use GitKraken again

Visual studio and vs code make life easier when it comes to the source control system. The User Interface is simple clean and well structured. One can easily maintain small to larger enterprise applications without much effort. And I have one more favourite "source tree" for the version control client.

Contras: Pode ser pesado, vers?o completa é paga (mas há Community Editions gratuitas).

When using any tool, it has to feel comfortable. Don't use a tool because "everyone else is using it". If you like a tool for development, then instead of keeping it for yourself, share it with your team. They may thank you for it! Also just because a tool offers a multitude of features doesn't mean that it is the best. Consider alternating between tools, if it makes sense. It's better to use three different tools that do exactly what you want them to do, than using one tool just because it kinda does everything...

There's not one editor that fits all. VSCode is pretty versatile and does the job well mostly. Especially for web apps (or TypeScript/JavaScript) based apps. There are some specific IDE choices too: - Visual Studio (for C# and .net based apps, asp.net, UWP etc.) - XCode : for Objective C or Swift (iOS Apps) - Android Studio : Kotlin/Java (Android and Kotlin based Apps) - PyCharm : for Python - RubyMine : for Ruby - and so on... Terminal based Editors are also great, they're fast and use very little memory, however they do come with a learning curve before one becomes productive with it. I've personally used vim as an IDE. NeoVim is a cool option if that's something you're into.
