Which remote sensing software offers the most advanced feature extraction capabilities?

Referring to over 10 years of my experiences, the most powerful image processing software is ENVI. It is owned by NV5 Geospatial (USA)that provides all preprocessing, processing, and post processing tools through a wide range of options in a very friendly platform. It got a powerful and reliable service in its “help”. ENVI supports both pixel and object based classification. Most of the time I have exported the results through ENVI then to have my last change in data base, layout,map, used ArcGIS and to have details of categorizing in the classification spatially in object based methods (OBIA) used eCognition software. anyway ENVI has always been the main and parent software for image processing, from my point of view.

Look for software with algorithms for pattern recognition and machine learning. Consider tools for object-based image analysis (OBIA) for precise feature extraction. Customizable tools offer flexibility to tailor to specific project needs. Software should support both pixel and object-based classification methods. Reliable software should provide powerful preprocessing and post-processing tools.

Although there are a number of tools and software available for remote sensing and GIS analysis but ENVI is one of the best among all for the remote sensing analysis

In my older experience undoubted very popular has been ArcGIS versions from Dangermond's ESRI in Southern California. Others were NASA Classification software. Two leaders in development Willow Run Lab Ypsilanti U of Mi with multivariate analysis including radiative transfer atmospheric corrections, ML based on training set approach and formed basis for 1972 ERTS 1 and 2 or now called LANDSAT 1. 2 satellites on which I worked. Competing software Purdue Univ Clustering algorithms, and this was the approach also used by then USSR Hydrometeorological services.
