Which new programming paradigms do you want to learn?

The synergy between functional programming and serverless architectures like AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, or Google Cloud Functions is truly impressive. The inherent statelessness of functional programming aligns seamlessly with the stateless nature of serverless architectures, demonstrating an ideal fit. It's a compelling reminder of how the old (functional programming) can harmoniously blend with the new (serverless) to drive innovation and efficiency.

One place that functional code shine, is in data processing applications. Using Scala in spark applications over python (beside the performance bump) really helped me assume the mindset needed for working with datasets. The strictness and functional aspects made for clearer data flows and transformations.

Interestingly, functional programming is one of the oldest paradigms. The first high-level language, Lisp, was developed in the late 1950s. It was not widely used because the hardware resources were too limited. Fortunately, that's not the case today!

I would spend time learning Scala 1.0 and ditch the later versions because there are features that I didn’t have time to learn properly. The later versions really water down those features and remove some good syntax. I just mini certified on over 10 languages and I like all of them, like the states in the US. The key is understanding each one and loving it.

It revolves around the idea of observing and reacting to changes in data over time. Libraries like RxJava or Kotlin Flow enable developers to create and manipulate reactive streams of data. This paradigm enhances code readability, simplifies complex asynchronous operations, and fosters a more maintainable architecture by chaining operations together, which is particularly advantageous in UI updates, network calls, and data transformations.

I completely agree with you! Quantum programming is indeed amazing and holds tremendous potential. By harnessing the power of quantum mechanics, we can unlock a whole new realm of programs and software. As we increase the number of qubits, we can tackle complex problems that would take years for classical supercomputers to solve. As technologies evolve, the problems we need to solve with technology also evolve and become more complex. And because of that, we need more and more specialized technology to solve these complex problems. In these cases, this type of paradigm has great potential to grow its use in the tech community.

Command Query Responsibility Segregation is a different pattern from the more standard CRUD pattern - to separate commands from queries, or read from write logic structures. The end result is to optimize around use cases where latency and throughput matter differently.

Data Centered Object Oriented Programming Objects are often representation of things in real life. Equivalent to a row in a relational db. Or a document in a document store db. Objects are nouns Joining data is the metadata/schema of inheritance. Multiple joins, multiple inheritance. A calculated column represents overloading or overriding virtual functions on a class. inheritance, polymorphism, overload/overriding are optional. DCOO is highly compatible with functional programming above. Just use composition/encapsulation to feed objects into functional/behavioral programming. C#, C++, Java, javascript, rust, and python all support separating functional (including functional purity) & data OO.

I would expect to see more tools developed around AI Assisted Programming. In the past developers would learn by talking other devs, books, learning from other people’s source code, or by searching the web for info or community sites like stackoverflow (personal favorite). Now with the advent of AI we can have another checker or set of virtual eyes to assist. AI can help enforce coding standards, find flaws, identify more efficient algorithms, or just give general feedback. This will hopefully lead to better code and coders, not create weaker coders looking for shortcuts. Time will tell as this is all still emerging.
