Or they might check in at various times to see how things are going. So a mentor might say they'll be observing at X time. Or they might not let you know ahead of time. Thus, mentees should always look at things as if they're being observed!

Mentees can feel nervous, even very nervous when they're new to online teaching or teaching X instead of Y. So mentors should provide some comfort and encouragement! And any feedback should provide both the positives and the negatives not just the negatives. And you want your feedback to be accurate but also written in such a way that you're being critical, helpful, and on their side. For example, instead of something like "You shouldn't have posted X because it's too controversial," use "It's good that you posted X but I would suggest using something less controversial." It's also best to have feedback spread out to allow mentees to adjust if necessary and better succeed.
