In my experience we engage manufacturers supervisors for equipments installation and manufacturer or client approved engineers and technicians for testing and commissioning for every specific equipment For example Power transformer manufacturer supervisor have to present during installation And same for other equipment like switch gear…. And client or manufacturer approved different engineers specifically for different equipments like relays, meters communication panels and other equipment to be assigned for testing and commissioning. And make sure there mutual understanding during interfaces by good coordination
In my opinion the best thing to do is criticality analysis of equipment you are working on. By this you can develop or build priority list that will automatically put your focus on more important equipments first and so on.
The plant and Equipment register is key. We should be aware of all the equipment and machinery we have, issues reported, and the last service/inspection, along with all the paperwork (SWMS, Prestart, Risk assessments). Prioritise,milestone dates,delivery dates,all additional requirements to original contract,don’t fob off or lie to clients,a days delivery slip can be coped with but only if they have prior knowledge. Organise all inspections and transport well in advance,make sure you have left time for inspection and paint,all documentation has to be in order. Communication with all parties is essential. Good Luck. Supplier slippages can be a nightmare.
I found helpful having a mechanic/technician that has used the equipment in other words hands on experience. If you are turning over equipment from one company to a partner company you might want to have a good paper trail. Communication is definitely key me and knowing the contract clauses.
