What are the top strategies to identify the right team members for a Thought Leadership project?

I believe in having a broad spectrum of representatives from every discipline, both people with deep experience and a balance of newbies. Make sure all ideas are captured and make sure the leader is thinking of outside of the box initiatives as well as time tested ones. Make sure all are committed to contributing.

Before recruiting a team, I always put together a summary of what the project is about, the time commitment, the responsibilities each team member will have, and what experience the team will get out of working on it. I find that setting expectations in this way is very helpful in recruiting the right team!

Writer/Creator - the person who will create the content - whether textual or otherwise - for the ambassadors. 3. Comms manager - the perosn who defines the goals of the project, and control the flow of information. This one doesn't have to be part of the team, but he/she needs to be invested in it.

In addition to assessing existing resources within your immediate network, consider collaborating with cross-functional teams within your organization. By involving members from various departments such as research and development, customer support, and sales, you can tap into diverse perspectives and expertise. You can find so many different people on your network that want to be part of something great, something bigger than them. The ones that like and comment on your content can also help or they know someone that can benefit you right now

Start small, encourage talent, beginning with 1to1s and the appraisal process. When you first meet your staff one of the most important things to ask about is career progression and what they would like to work on, how they would like to see things develop. This will give key insight into some of the underlying, unused skills that you can bring out. Delegate from here and gauge reactions and progress. Be clear with aims and how you would like this information fed back to you.

For me, Having one with a strong communication skill is crucial and effective for thought leadership projects. Choose team members who can articulate complex ideas clearly, both in writing and verbally. Also, Seeking team members who exhibit innovative thinking. I typically look for 3-4 people to be a part of each thought leadership team, and we look for a variety of skill sets for each team. We need a project manager, a high level strategist, and also associates who can pull data and create charts and slides. When everyone has a defined role and knows their place, projects run so much more smoothly!

A few times a year we have a 'thought leadership fair' at my organization where we share the list of upcoming projects and the roles we are looking for. We then have people sign up for topics that they are excited about contributing to. This really helps to create a dedicated team.
