However, just providing operator training is not enough for the employer. It's vital that the use of the belt is enforced in the working environment.

My addition to this would be, always honk your horn about every 10 to 15 feet so people are aware that a fork truck is moving in their direction and making them aware of the hazards.

One thing I would add is always to know where unconventional pedestrian walkways are. I worked at a company where we would cross under a conveyer belt instead of walking around. One day, an older worker crossed under the belt, not paying attention, and got hit by a forklift driver who didn't see her in time. Since the worker was older, it was fatal.

As a flatbed operator, whenever I unload pipe stacked high, I always communicate to the forklift operator my safety plans for unstrapping. I would tell him that I would unstrap the middle straps first. Then the end straps last incase the pipe shifts I would have a better chance to run away from the ends rather than from the middle of the load of pipe. Less risk of injury this way. Always keep belly straps on until the top layers are unloaded.

LPG fuelled trucks: -cylinder changing locations should be outdoors, away from plant and combustible materials with fire extinguisher present -wear appropriate PPE -allow the cylinder to run completely out of gas -LPG cylinders are heavy , use safe manual handling techniques -ensure gas valves are connected properly, not leaking and not emitting strong odours

I would add that when parking your forklift and putting the forks on the floor you also tilt them forward so that the fork tips are making contact with the floor to minimize the chance of a trip and fall. Especially if you're parked near a high foot traffic area.
