Context is everything. What business are you in? What region (s) of the world do you operate? What are your most important assets? Who are your stakeholders? You cannot feasibly plan for every imaginable emergency, only those relevant to your situation.

Must start with the ability to anticipate. What is out there? How could it occur? Only then can one move to complete a risk assessment to determine likelihood and impact, and the ability to cope with that risk. Can this risk be reduced through prevention? What remains is what we then have to rationalise: Risk v Risk.

When you analyse a risk you are looking at prioritising it based on severity. Severity (z) is commonly a combination of likelihood (x) and consequences (y). So z = x times y. Les systèmes d’information jouent un r?le important pour que les personnes impliquées dans l’organisation soient informées des risques, et des process à suivre en cas de situation à risque. Elles doivent également être formées à ces questions pour identifier et faire remonter toute nouvelle situation à risque. En el contexto de la gestión de emergencias, creo prudente agregar el principio de monitoreo y revisión pues puede ayudar a: 1-Identificar nuevos riesgos que pueden surgir como resultado de cambios en el entorno, como el clima, la tecnología o la sociedad. 2-Evaluar la eficacia de las medidas de mitigación existentes. 3-Desarrollar nuevos planes de respuesta a emergencias en caso de que los riesgos se vuelvan más graves o frecuentes.

I think stopping at risk knowledge is an incomplete cycle of emergency management. One missing element is assessment of your risk management capacity. What resources are readily available for deployment, how can additional resources be quickly mobilized should risk level outweigh available resources. Having all these figured out ahead of time helps Emergency managers to take quick decisions at all levels of emergency

Depending on level of experience, I recommend reviewing the basics in assessing your system. You have to start with a good foundation before you can build up or out. While assessing, build relationships with those surrounding you that can make things happen....also, identify potential impediment during this process......meaning, review the downline logistics and gaps in processes. Finally, engage other stakeholders and be transparent as to the gaps in from your perspective. Meaning take the opportunity to educate others to your concerns and potential issues and help with their concerns as well. What you are doing in linking and leveraging resources for common goals.

One of the most important point within the risk assessment is change and adoption. What do I mean by that? As the society is a dinamic and is developing at all levels, the mondern risk specialist should follow that development and identify the new risks that are definitely arising. Staying in the mindset of the risk management how it was 20-25 years ago is wrong. Yes, some risks will most probably be the same but the new ones are in front. One of the biggest problems is change as people very often resist to it due the different reasons. We must always aim for improvement and identify new risks as close as possible. Most businesses believe that the perceived infrequency of the risk is not worth the hassle of allocating funding for its prevention until "one good day" the risk occurs and leaves in its wake an impact so severe, that it wipes away all of the savings the organization was desirous of preserving. Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and update emergency plans, incorporating lessons learned to enhance future risk management strategies.
