What tools do you consider essential in your concept art workflow?

I disagree, I’m a painter, I get my hands dirty, I put action, feelings, depth and yes imagination, the digital now, cannot do that. Intentional brush strokes, blended strokes of mixed color. You can never replace a real artist.

Usei por muito tempo tablet bamboo até ter um ipad em que pude desenhar diretamente, vi voltar quase a totalidade do prazer que tenho ao desenhar em folhas de papel, além da minha produtividade super aumentar.

Tablets, ou mesas digitalizadoras s?o boas, mas n?o se comparam com a eficácia de um bom display. Trabalhei anos com uma bamboo da wacom, tinha que fazer o rascunho no caderno pra depois pintar com a mesa digitalizadora, muito trabalho. Hoje em dia com a cintiq pro 16 o fluxo é muito mais rápido e eficaz.

Always have a sketch book and ballpoint pens or sharpies at the ready as inspiration can strike at any moment. To be able to get that idea onto paper before you lose it is very important .

When approaching conceptual I rely heavily on reference materials for various reasons. 1. To gather knowledge: If the objective is achieving realism I know I have to do a study on anatomy concerning the subject matter and in the process I've gained more knowledge on where to place muscles, how to draw various landmarks etc. 2. It updates me current trends: For quite sometime now a minimalistic approach to character development has been used for cartoon shows i.e Adventure time. 3. Spontaneity: This is personal to me as an artist so I don't stereotype myself to "one style" of work and it allows clients to know I'm capable to pulling off different styles or adjusting when needed

Referensi sangat berperan besar pada hasil sebuah karya. Bagi saya pribadi, saya lebih sering menggunakan foto dari beberapa website ( pexel, freepik ) untuk menjadi referensi pose dan juga kostum dari tokoh yang saya buat.

Draw everything everywhere. Draw things in different lighting. Change the time you sketch and practice shadows at different hours of the afternoon or morning. Challenge yourself with difficult reflective objects. Look long. Study what is happening in the reflections. There is a flow. Master the quiet details that animate a sketch or tell a story.

Saber à risca teoria das cores é a melhor forma de entender porque sua paleta funciona. Inclusive, na hora que você for quebrar as regras nas teorias, tem que saber qual regra você está quebrando, afinal, uma boa desconstru??o vem de saber como construir primeiro. Uma boa paleta conta a história e transmite o sentimento que você tem inten??o de mostrar. Cores aleatórias podem até ficar "bonitas" porem nem sempre funcionais. Se basear só no "feeling" deixa seu material medíocre.

Menurut saya pribadi, warna sangat berpengaruh pada "mood" atau "vibe" dari sebuah gambar. Tergantung keperluan dari ilustrasi itu sendiri, pemilihan warna pun harus menyesuaikan. Contohnya, untuk ilustrasi anak-anak yang lebih condong ke warna terang untuk menarik minat target pembaca. Sementara ilustrasi untuk komik digital untuk dewasa menggunakan warna yang lebih gelap, hal ini berkaitan dan kenyamanan pembaca komik digital tersebut. Untuk komik digital, genre pun berpengaruh dengan pewarnaan ilustrasi. Jika komik bergenre romansa lebih condong dengan warna yang cerah, maka berkebalikan dengan komik bergenre thriller dan juga misteri/horor yang lebih mengedepankan vibe dengan pewarnaan yang cenderung gelap.

I believe that optimizing your creative workflow is a crucial skill to have as an artist. There are various ways to achieve it; one of them is creating templates from everything you use more than once and then organizing those assets into libraries. With a well-organized library, you can streamline your workflow and save precious time. This approach enables you to focus more on the creative process rather than wasting time looking for similar-looking references. My library is full of poses, textures, backgrounds, and Photoshop actions. I also collect Photoshop files that are already named, organized in color, and have adjustable color correction groups.

Templates. In the digital realm, you should be making templates out of everything you design and organizing it for future use. For example, You create a rock garden with thousands of rocks grouped together for a landscape project. Took forever, but it looks good. Looks real. Generate a template. Save the template. Next time you need a rock garden you won't need to add thousands of rocks. Insert your template and modify. Ungroup and make it unique. If you apply this organization concept to your work flow you can reach more clients and drive up more exposure. You typically increase sales or production also and the faster you turn over designs the more likely you are to be successful with clients ready to move now.

One of the best tools that helped me was to record my painting process from start to finish (I used free OBS to do it). This helped me understand what stages I needed to complete in order to get a good design in the estimated time frame. A recording of all distractions allows you to identify areas where your workflow can be simplified and optimized. In my case, I was able to save time by creating Photoshop templates and actions that included all of the steps I usually take to create a design. And, whether you are working in a team or presenting your ideas to clients, being able to clarify your process ensures that everyone is on the same page and trusts you to provide timely updates.
