Identify Opportunities to explore external factors that could benefit your team, e.g. new market trends, industry changes, latest tech and tools. Identify Threats from external factors that could negatively impact your team, e.g. potential budget cuts.

While feedback is useful in helping one's professional development, it must be approached objectively and with an open-mind. Bearing in mind that the giver of the feedback, being human, has their unique set of strengths and weaknesses. When applied in a constructive way, it aids to evaluate work performance and provide learning opportunities in identifying what went well and what could have been improved.

Getting feedback from your client is the best way to improve their performance and identify strengths. Your team is a valuable asset to you. Make sure to empower them with constructive criticism and highlight their strength and weaknesses.

In my experience talking to people have done wonders. I casually talk to my team on tea breaks on challenges they face, upskilling they need, anything they want to contribute to apart from the current role, hidden interest. I pivoted from being a coder to a sales superstar because my boss identified my hidden skills and talent during our casual outing. Formal reviews do well while informal ones do wonders.

What weaknesses as a team do you need to be mindful of? The goal is not to eliminate weaknesses -- but instead, to be aware of them so you can make strategic decisions in light of them. For instance, you might delegate a task to someone because you know it's their strength. Or, you might delegate it to someone because you know it's their weakness and they have expressed a desire to improve. Give them the right-sized challenge, to help them get better.

One of my favorite things to implement within my teams is a self-assessment combined a reviewer assessment, then doing a gap analysis. For me, I may do a self-assessment of my success as a team leader and my methods of leadership, then I would ask my team to rate me using the same assessment! I can them use their responses to measure if I am actually showing up as the leader I think I am. A great way to combine self-assessments and feedback!

Training is the most crucial part here to build your team's strengths and help them overcome their weaknesses. Moreover, boosting your team's morale, productivity and efficiency fourfold. With training you can build a strong team, which is dynamic and possess skill sets that they need to help you grow company and delight customers/clients.

Don't just identify weaknesses, focus on building strengths! Leverage your team's unique talents and create an action plan to address any gaps. Celebrate successes along the way!

I’ve noticed that you can learn a lot about a person by just being observant. A colleague might be a bit shy and feel uncomfortable when sharing their ideas in big group settings, regardless of how good they might be, in which case it might be better to approach them separately to get their insight and feedback on a specific project. The same applies when looking at the different team member’s preferred way of working, some might thrive when working under a more managed environment with constant back and forth communication with managers, while others might work better and be more effective on their own and prefer meeting less regularly to share their ideas. By building on these observations you could bring out the best in your team!

Learning Style Assessments, Peer-to-Peer Evaluations and Survey Returns. Understand the learning styles of individual team members. This can inform training and development initiatives tailored to their preferred ways of acquiring new skills. Then implementation of peer-to-peer evaluations where team members assess each other's strengths and weaknesses. This can foster a collaborative culture and uncover unique insights. You may also include specific questions about team performance in customer satisfaction surveys. Direct input from customers can highlight areas of excellence and areas needing improvement.

There are two aspects to this. The technical skills and the soft skills. The technical skill can be easily determined and trained for. In my view, the soft skills that always come in the way of collaboration. One recent technique I learned was PI or predictive index. This assesses a person on 4 perspectives- the decision making preference (individual/team), the social skills (extrovert/introvert), the patience levels and the flexibility levels. And add this to how other team members are, it gives a good view on how people function.
