The most important part and step of the entire research process — identify your local users and ask them what THEY want. Balancing stakeholder needs is all well and good but if the key users aren’t the ones benefitting then your design is not the success you think it is!

Esse é um ponto muito importante, a preserva??o da cultura que é a alma e identidade de um local. às vezes o desafio maior do que preservar a cultura é também encontrar formas de retoma-lá, revivê-la, n?o só no conceito arquitet?nico regional mas aqui falo de fatos históricos que marcaram aquele local e merecem ser perpetuados seja através de monumentos ou marcos históricos, e n?o há forma mais assertiva do que ouvir, ter uma escuta com os moradores, recapitular os “causos” que ultrapassam gera??es, e com o auxílio de historiadores também buscar reproduzir elementos que traduzam essa identidade histórica e cultural. Assim conseguiremos obter esse engajamento e manter viva nesta popula??o suas raizes históricas e culturais.

It was not until recent years that planners and economic and housing development professionals operated in silos with each group viewing the others as an impediment rather than an asset for successfully carrying out projects. However, it seems that light bulbs started turning on among all three groups with a recognition and realization that working hand in glove maximizes the opportunity for success. The reality is that planners should involve economic and housing development professionals before starting projects to get their insight and feedback on what should be part of plans to maximize the chance of desired outcomes becoming a reality. Conversely, economic/housing development professionals need plans as a guide to launch projects.

Transparency, open mind, directness, and forthrightness through communication and engagement is the path leading to avoidance as well as resolution involving community push back and opposition to urban renewal type projects. Urban renewal while likely long overdue does equal change which can always be daunting and disconcerting by the public affected by it. Your role is to be calming, reasoned influence from the outset before any work is finalized which means you need to establish yourself as a reliable source of information as well as an open venue for listening and incorporating community feedback into the ultimate urban renewal project.
