I agree with Raf that to truly be effective you have to have experience in other areas of technology than strictly CyberSecurity tools. Context matters, quite a bit. As important as specific technical skills is understanding what everything is supposed to look like, so you can identify when there is a problem. I will put a caveat in here that I believe the industry as a whole needs to adopt a mindset of establishing a pipeline of folks that are just starting and growing into the role. Look for character, drive and grit along with an aptitude for the work. If someone is willing to do the work to learn, then be willing to walk alongside them while they do and lend your experience. You will grow as much as they do I bet.

Here's what nobody will tell you. You can't just take a boot camp, pass a few tests, get a certification, and suddenly you're an effective cyber security employee. In fact, the less "seat time" you have in other disciplines in IT, the less effective you'll be in cyber because you won't understand the WHY behind the things we see. Whether it's writing code, configuring systems, troubleshooting routing issues, or supporting the help desk - you will need to work your way through these other teams to get the full picture... otherwise you'll end up what we refer to as a "paper tiger". You'll be amazing on paper, but of limited use in a real situation.
