I am both an architect and also deeply involved in architecture software. The act of "choosing the right software" needs a proper perspective: Current slew of architecture software simply assumes that this is how it will always be: Create 3D geometry, do clever things with it, and so on. But architecture design is not just all this. I can see a sea change in the kind of approaches that can be taken for architecture design. Practically all the algorithms that are in use today and definitely all the approaches are actually legacy of the sixties and seventies -- where it was thought that geometry modelling is hard. But architecture has lot more harder non-geometrical issues which needs to be solved. So yes, you have to choose carefully!

A defined standards for a project can always be the key , using it as an integral part of the team. Establishing an object library can ease up the work flow. Quality check the model regularly to prevent unexpected bugs.

BIM talks about "Building" it is in the acronym itself. I may get tossed off as a 62 year old argumentative architect -- but this emphasis on geometry being the hard problem to solve and therefore one needs parametric and associative modeling is throwing the real concerns under the carpet.
