The SDLC can come in many different forms based on ones interpretation of the framework and also their implementation, but in my experience SDLC played a key role in architecting and implementing any solution. No one person is responsible for the teams efforts and the SDLC / when tuned correctly keeps the team on the same page and functioning towards a common goal.

As someone early in my career, I used to think that SDLC and software engineering practices were just extra theory that made things more complicated. However, once you start working on industrial-scale projects and see how large ecosystems like Careem, Uber, and Google operate, these frameworks begin to seem essential. Working on a large-scale project is impossible without proper SDLC planning. SDLC if managed properly helps the team to stay focused towards a mutual goal and work on same page.

The SDLC helps to: Define the project goals and objectives Identify the target audience and their needs Develop a plan for development and testing Create a high-quality, functional software product Reduce the risk of project failure There are many different SDLC models, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Some of the most popular models include: Waterfall model: A linear approach where each phase of the development process must be completed before moving on to the next. Agile model: An iterative and incremental approach where the software is developed in short cycles, with continuous feedback from users. Spiral model: A combination of the waterfall and agile models that allows for more flexibility and risk management.

The SRE process typically involves several key activities: Requirements Elicitation: This involves gathering information about the needs of the software from various stakeholders, such as end-users and business analysts. Techniques for elicitation include interviews, workshops, document reviews, and user observation. Requirements Analysis: Once the requirements are gathered, they need to be analyzed to ensure they are clear, consistent, feasible, and measurable. This may involve identifying conflicts, prioritizing requirements, and documenting them in a requirements specification document (SRS). Requirements Specification: This involves creating a formal document that outlines the functional and non-functional requirements of the software.

In my experience this is THE guiding light for a project. Both Functional Requirements and Non-Functional requirements must be in writing and all the stakeholders must understand them, agree on them, and prioritize them. Also, to support the requirements, there must be a list of Risks and mitigations for each, along with an exit criteria. (Exactly what we need to produce, In what order, what can trip us up, how do we know we are finished, all with concensius)

Software Engineering Ethics means following rules that ensure good and fair behavior. such as Privacy, Honest, Accountability & Compliance. Privacy is about keeping user data safe and secret. Honesty is being clear about what the software can and can't do, and how it's progressing. Accountability is taking responsibility for your work and fixing any problems that arise & Compliance is following all laws and regulations. These principles help create trustworthy and reliable software & one should never compromise on these.
