What are some of the key content strategy frameworks and models that you use or follow?

One content model that I normally use for social media channels or blog content is the Hero, Hub, Hygiene model. Hero content can be a video or an important piece of content that has been made with much effort or might have an influencer in it or is backed by solid research like a microsite. Hub content is a topic or group of topics from which multiple content pieces can be created. For example. IPL or FIFA world cup can be a hub content topic from which many content pieces can be made and posted. Hygiene content is content that a brand regularly puts out like how-to videos, product feature updates, promotional content, topical posts etc etc. Dividing content like this helps the team prioritize better.

When working with a larger communications team this structure is helpful to make sure that content is moving clearly through a pipeline and that everyone understands the end goal. Even on a tight-knit team, if everyone doesn't know the goal, substance, structure, workflow, and governance they can inadvertently alter, delay, or lose the purpose of the content. A lot of people do this strategy without thinking of the five components, but laying them out makes sure that everyone is on the same page.

This is key for any organization (or honestly for any individual). If you can make a clear strategy statement everything points back to - you remove a lot of noise and clutter. Consider the travel blog example above, "We create inspiring and practical content for solo travelers who want to explore the world on their own terms, to help them plan their trips, enjoy their experiences, and achieve their personal goals." Now, say a partnership comes up that is about a packaged family tourist destination. Does it fit the strategy above? No. So it's easy to filter and move on.

The Content Mix approach Each of these frameworks and models offers a unique approach to creating and distributing content on social media, depending on a brand's goals and target audience.

Content should be truthful at all times. The idea is to have potential customers/interested folks get all the information they need from you and your site/business. You want to minimize Googling and looking elsewhere to verify your content. When that happens, misinformation can result.

Great content, no matter how easy to create, has steps and purpose. If you implement one or more of these strategies, make sure to evaluate how the strategy is working for you. They're all tools and often as content creators - I think we forget to evaluate our tools to make sure we're our best work better, faster, and stronger.
