Additive has large potential in almost every shop on the work holding front. At the end of the day whether you’re a job shop or production shop you make money when your machines are running, or as the old saying goes “if your spindles aren’t turning you aren’t earning”. This almost always holds true. Work holding is an integral part in almost any setup up and can take up valuable machine time. With additive and 3D printing you can create work holding for you coming jobs passively. Program it during the day and print over night and save the productive machine time for making customer parts. This is especially helpful if you’re a shop or individual challenged with a lot of different changeovers and/or complex work holding.
