Interestingly, this is exactly the type of thing current GenerativeAi (LLM) are not very good at yet. Therefore our attempts and progress towards building Machine-learning models that are capable of better deductive reasoning, will also represent a major milestone in furthering our own understanding of how the human brain might go about deductive reasoning.

Inductive reasoning is the opposite of deductive reasoning and is a logical process that starts from specific observations to draw a general conclusion. This type of reasoning is often used in decision-making in order to discover patterns, make predictions, and generate theories. For instance, if we observe that the sun has risen in the east each day for the past three days, we can conclude that it is likely to rise in the east again tomorrow. This conclusion is probable, but not certain, based on the observations. Inductive reasoning is also known as bottom-up reasoning because it moves from a particular statement to a more universal one.

Interestingly LLMs have shown some ability for inductive reasoning tasks. Their performance still varies however, still this is a major milestone, resulting again from the introduction of the Transformer Model in 2017 and it's 'self-attention' mechanism. At least that's the common denominator, because ultimately these are emerging capabilities (zero-shot abilities) we are observing in LLM transformers, trained on ever-increasing size datasets and we're not quite sure how these emerging capabilities come into being or how their mechanics work.
