Indeed a combination of digital and blended learning does the trick. With digital, you provide flexibility and above all freedom. In a classroom if you don’t understand a concept, you may feel shameful but you can run a video n number of times without any fear of judgement. Where digital learning falls short, the traditions one fills up. Overall a win win situation

In my experience as a leader, manager, instructor, and facilitator, both digital and blended methods have their place. However, we have to be careful that we don’t not lean on the digital more out of convenience than applicability. We are talking about leadership and not about spectatorship. Often, again from experience and academics, it is the personal connection, made in-person as best as possible, that leaders, not managers, do their best and most effective work.

This approach emphasizes flexibility and the capacity to navigate changing circumstances. Leaders who practice adaptive leadership can assess situations, respond to challenges, and mobilize their teams to address complex problems effectively. Create scenarios that mimic real-life challenges leaders might face. This helps them practice decision-making and problem-solving in a safe environment. Allow leaders to test new ideas and approaches in a controlled setting. This encourages innovation and learning from both successes and failures.

It emphasizes recognizing the relationships and interdependencies among various elements to gain a comprehensive understanding. What about HR leaders? HR speak all the time about others, mainly employees learning and development. But what about HR? HR seem to see themselves as seperate. Bar the CIPD levels many do not actively seek to develop skills that lie outside of the normal HR perimeters. From my interactions with many HR over the years, HR are hugely lacking in two places. Real knowledge of Employment law and most concerning Risk Management. HR should own the Insider Risk Programmes in organisations. They own the human function yet the know little about managing the risks. Without strong risk management in HR, cyber security are taking over in leadership and driving risk at the same time as lowering loyalty and employee engagement and creativity.
