Enquire and care about their families . 6. Be good when you can by active listening all the time . 7. Send a Thankyou note when has targets have been achieved.

Team leaders can actively contribute by offering suggestions for overcoming these challenges and taking a proactive role in their resolution. This engagement not only motivates the team but also instills belief in their ability to successfully attain their goals.

As prior military, when the going gets tough, staying motivated gets tougher. Being a good leader is often the best way to boost motivation. Get to know everyone in the team and be understanding. There is no step-by-step process, as one “size fits all” puts motivation out the door quickly and people who don’t fit your idea of the “one size” get left in the dark. Make sure you take your fair share of the work and stay involved with your team; lead by example. Listen to ideas, encourage growth, and squash the negativity (especially from yourself) because it’s infectious. Again, nothing kills team moral like having no confidence in the people who lead them; so always seek ways to improve yourself, then your team. The rest will follow.

This can be done through formal team meetings or informal chats over lunch for example. Formal meetings should not just discuss progress in achieving team goals but also obstacles and challenges faced by teammates. Team leaders can then offer suggestions on possible solutions to overcome them and take a more active role in removing these obstacles which then in turn motivates the team to keep going and believing in themselves in achieving their goals.

Experienced professionals must prioritise feedback and recognition to motivate teams. Give team members constructive feedback to acknowledge their contributions and help them improve. Celebrate individual and team accomplishments, emphasising their contributions to project or organisation success. Encourage open communication, teamwork and proactive problem-solving to create a welcoming workplace. Show that you understand each team member's professional goals and growth prospects by tailoring your leadership style to their skills and preferences. Set explicit goals and expectations to show team members their effect.
