Exactly! As a Product Owner myself, I can vouch for this point. A well-refined backlog cannot be solely achieved by the PO. It's when the stakeholders, product team and technical team are all on the same page, share their priorities, and help the PO in better defining the tasks and priorities. It is a team work! Grooming & planning sessions do help achieve a refined backlog. Even though I come from a technical background, sometimes getting into the smallest detail of the requirement requires technical expertise that I get from the team during such ceremonies. But, you can have all the required valid inputs but still have a poor backlog if you are not constantly re-visiting and refining the backlog. It sounds hectic, but its worth it.

Totally agree with the point above. In addition to this, Scrum teams often ignore this critical ceremony or tend to rush the process resulting in poor estimations, ambiguity and incomplete user stories. This often leads to confusion and more time being spent to complete the story in a given sprint or being taken out of sprint as it may not be ready for development due to various reasons such as dependencies not mapped, story not broken down in sizable chunks etc. When done correctly, this sets up scrum team for success and gets them closer to achieve the sprint goals.

In my experience people tends to forget how important backlog refinement is. They directly jump into planning on the whole assumption that their backlog is good to go. But if you will add this small yet a very important activity of backlog refinement you will see how much better your planning gets and you keep your closer to your end product goal.

Ensure backlog items are detailed enough to be understood and actionable. Estimate the effort required for each backlog item to assist in planning. Continuously update and refine backlog items as new information and feedback are obtained. Prioritize items based on their value, urgency, and dependencies.

In an iteration-based environment, each PBI should be split so that it can be delivered within the iteration. This is typically estimated in Story Points, and the team will learn over time what their story point estimates mean in relation to the iteration. If a PBI (Product Backlog Item) estimate is very close to what can usually be delivered within one iteration, the item should be further broken down. Estimates are just that, estimates, and not always precise. A large backlog items introduces the risk that it may not be delivered and may delay the release. Generally, the smaller the item, the better. 'Delivered' means all validation have been completed, and the Definition of Done (DOD) is fulfilled.

Always, make sure to allocate enough time to performance, scalability , localization and tech debt. We should consider keeping our stories short. Try to keep the stories in the backlog independent and break larger stories into smaller stories. The independent and smaller stories are easy to work with.
