Be genuine, not performative. Designing interventions for a more diverse organizational culture requires genuine, meaningful actions, not just performative gestures. You need to go beyond simple heritage month casual events but truly listen to what the community wants. For every program, service, or resource you put into place you need to ensure you are not doing just FOR the diverse community but WITH that same community. Ensure they have seats at the table when talking about how to support a diverse organization. The diversity of voices in creating these programs must reflect the commitment to and values of diversity itself.

I think Diversity is of great value to any organization, to any aspect of business. But it's important to recognize that Diversity is beyond just race, age, and the other attributes that can be seen with the naked eye. It's deeper than that and we should make sure we don't just focus on the visual side of Diversity when defining our vision, when implementing the vision or when measuring success.

Top management must really want a more diverse organisational culture and set an example of diversity and inclusion themselves. Employee resource groups on various aspects of diversity in the company and in society are an important factor and should be included in strategy development and implementation. This enables companies to position themselves authentically both internally and externally on the topic.
