The most important thing in the relationship with investors is communication. I urge anyone working in this industry to keep their clients communication at top priority. When the client is going through their implementation process make sure that they are across every step of the way. In my experience a quick update via email or SMS with work. If the clients you know is an either position make sure it touch base with the clients every two to three months say hi or have coffee.

Share insights. Openly and regularly. Especially the bad stuff you experience and learned from, so that we can learn too. Because then we know that you are transparent and willing to learn and that we can build trust with each other for long-term (the same goes to investors, if you expect to just hearing the good news, you have no business being here). Rather than just keeping things clean above board, while there are lots of poop under board. Play the long game, always.

Make them part of the journey, most investors in the VC space have access to exclusive events, perks and the rest. What we offer as a GP is exposure to companies out of their radar and making them part to the companies journey it opens new opportunities for them either as learning or creating new deal-flow. But it also reassures them that they belong to the right group and that the GP keeps him present. Knowing that your money manager keeps you present and included is the best way to show appreciation.
