I see no difference in using this technique in remote work place than working on site. On site you send an email, a text, make a call. You can and should do the same virtually adding zoom as an option. And in many cases you can even make an occasional face to face visit at the person’s home really showing how appreciative you are. Public recognition may not be as easy virtually but you can take time at virtual team meetings to do so and you can have a virtual wall of honor to post such praise for all to see.

You can use a platform like Slack, Trello, or Google Jamboard to create a shared space where you and your team members can add messages, images, stickers, or emojis to celebrate each other's work. This is great! Teams channels allow for virtual shoutouts but a virtual “wall” that collects and archives these recognitions to look back on is a wonderful way to continually motivate your team.
Not only can you do this but you can create a virtual platform where any team member can recognize and thank other team members.
A virtual celebration is a great way to acknowledge employee contributions and create a sense of connection and belonging among your remote team. You can host a virtual celebration for various occasions, such as completing a project, reaching a milestone, or achieving a goal. You can also use it to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, or holidays. You can make your virtual celebration more engaging and interactive by using video conferencing tools, games, quizzes, polls, or music. A virtual celebration can enhance your team's morale, camaraderie, and loyalty.
People in the fundraising arena have gotten quite adept at this for fundraising purposes. It could just as easily be done to have remote or hybrid employee recognition events.

I love the idea of being flexible. Employees are always at different stages of their lives and careers. Flexible recognition rewards help to tailor it to their needs. In my experience I have had a range of employees that wanted recognized by gifts, some title or just recognized in front of their peers, new employees with little paid time built up that would love to have a paid day off, and of course mostly money.
Some employers allow employees to select the recognition they want from a pre approved list it catalog. Many appreciate it. I think many appreciate it more when the boss gets to know them do well that the boss can from that knowledge, choose a reward they really like.

I agree with this. One thing I’ve found helpful is to recognize the employee on a regular basis. When employee does something don’t wait to recognize them at a meeting or another big event, this doesn’t separate them from everyone else and they need their own recognition. Recognize them when they do something that week. This keeps the momentum and morale of the employees engaged and upbeat. This also motivates them to continue doing a good job while working remotely.
I have done it by having that as an agenda item at team meetings where you can share your own story or share a nice story about someone else’s success.

At a previous employer we would pick several employees to recognize in front of their peers at our monthly safety meetings. Some people are uncomfortable being recognized in front of others but I believe it is a good way for everyone to be a part of that recognition.
