During the development phase, it's crucial to revisit the target audience to gather their opinions and feedback on the project. Only after this step should the prototype phase begin.

Connectivity between legacy and new systems can be challenging with interfaces and API’s not supported. Bespoke platforms are often proposed before moving towards off the shelf platforms due to cost is also a pitfall. This leads to re-engineering and inefficiencies and a solution that is not as optimized as it could have been.

Speaking for Germany here.. There is no lack of criticism and over scepticism. If I present 'realistic' proposals they are not inspiring at all.. This is due to a general lack of optimism and can-do spirit. Calculating that we have only 1/2 a decade left to change the course of a whole planet, we have to do better than listening to the nay sayers. AV cars will come and solve some Mobility problems. Shared public space, safety etc. Its not easy, but Mobility has to change drastically to decrease the CO2 exhaust. Its the biggest problem (personal mobility a.k.a cars) where everybody's decisions matter, so lets show the public an alternative that attracts them!

It’s an unrealistic assumption to expect that the status quo will not go down without a fight. I agree with my fellow authors that projects need clear OKRs grounded in data and rigorous analysis. I also posit that change has to justify itself, while (at times abysmal) status quo, with all its vested interests, doesn’t. Too many innovations get sandboxed, tested in settings preventing scale, in trials running for years or decades, just to get mothballed afterwards. Yes, I’m talking to you, Germany.

To address this, it is essential to establish realistic targets, acknowledge any project shortcomings, and, if needed, revisit the planning phase. Aus meiner Sicht, sollten wir uns darauf konzentrieren, was heute schon machbar und sinnvoll ist - etwa die Verbesserung von Verkehrssteuerung, Parkraummanagement und multimodaler Vernetzung.

In a project to introduce a smart ride-sharing service, we initially operated it as a standalone solution. After receiving feedback, we integrated the service with the city’s public transport network, allowing seamless transfers & payment systems, which greatly enhanced user convenience & system efficiency Ensure smart mobility solutions are accessible & inclusive. Overlooking the needs of all user groups can lead to unequal access & usability issues Conduct thorough pilot testing before full-scale implementation. Insufficient testing can result in unforeseen issues & large-scale failures

In my mind, there are some others to be mindful of in smart mobility and transportation. 1) don't forget to ensure accessibility for all users, including those with disabilities, socio-economic disparities, or limited mobility. 2) don't neglect to consider the environmental consequences of smart mobility solutions (facing pollution and resource depletion). 3) don't collecting vast amounts of data without clear strategies for analysis and interpretation. 4) don't implement smart mobility solutions without adequate infrastructure support (power sources, connectivity, and maintenance). 5) don't relying too heavily on specific tech vendors without diversify options. 6) don't underestimate cultural norms, preferences, and behavioral patterns.

Smart Mobility and Transportation does not have to be overly complex (think public transport ticket systems in different cities, each system wants to be unique and better than the other) From a user perspective it is much better (easier) to repeat common patterns, so the system is intuitive much quicker. The perspective of a novice is very hard to maintain as a specialist, to become naive again and try something truly new is mandatory for Traffic system designers!

Finally, building an agile framework for continuous improvement is vital. Emphasize iterative updates, focusing on machine learning and AI to improve route optimization, traffic predictions, and system efficiency. Smart mobility also benefits from eco-friendly practices, such as integrating electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, which aligns with sustainability goals and meets rising demand for green solutions in urban transport networks.
