Motivational skills include setting realistic and challenging goals, providing choices and autonomy, recognizing and rewarding effort and progress, and creating a supportive and positive climate.

Feedback or reflection notes at the end of unit can help gauge the understanding of.learners. moreover,in the same questionnaire, you can ask learners to identify which are the areas of improvement and how they can work on improving them. In addition to that, they can also suggest the help they require from the teacher. If time permits, the teacher can talk to each learner individually and help solve their doubts along with overcoming their learning blockages.

Set a baseline by ascertaining the student's strengths, weaknesses and perceived blocks. From here, build a model for realistic improvement. This is based on the student's lifestyle and how much time they will find to invest in learning. Showing the student many and diverse ways to increase exposure to the subject (in my case language acquisition) on a daily basis will increase confidence in his/her ability to succeed and will boost motivation.

Creating an environment where the student is heard and feels a sense of trust is vital. The meeting has to be a safe place where they are able to ask, and to make mistakes without judgement and criticism. Sensitivity is key to providing a space that includes corrections, explanations, practice and ultimately improvement.

All of these skills are important! Making learning fun in various ways is a great retention technique ! Example: ASL Vocabulary test, we play hangman. They must Finger-spell, sign, and use the word in a sentence to get the team points! I have the alphabet in ASL foam magnets for them to put in the spaces on the board. My own curriculum!
