Apart from these rhe resources alao needs to be available for more practical understanding and case studies can be a great way to explain the various concepts.

Of course every faculty needs to make right changes and mould the content to suit their style and pedagogy, and ensure proper ciliation practices are followed. Technological tools can help here too. In fact, being able to use tools like generative AI, auto grammar and spell checker, plagiarism checker should be an essential part of the faculty tool kit especially for ones involved in creating e-learning content.

If you were a carpenter and didn't know how to swing a hammer, most of your nails would be angled or bent. Carry that analogy forward into e-learning. You have tools - Zoom, WebEx, etc, your slides, your voice, heck even your clock - ensure that you are an expert at their use *and* understand the features of each. Then plan where each of those tools/features can benefit the learning process. What will assess understanding, what will keep attention, what will distract from a critical moment in discovery? Since my first days as an instructor I've develop my own mantra "I must learn if I am to teach." That means more than learning the content, it means learning to teach effectively.

I've always believed that students won't get excited unless the teacher gets excited. Find the unique, fascinating, inspiring aspects of your content - get yourself excited about them *before* you put together a learning plan. Your enthusiasm will come out in the final product and enthusiasm is contagious.

Additionally, learners should be given at least two attempts to answer formative assessment questions. This approach keeps learners motivated and helps them achieve the desired learning outcomes. To further increase motivation and engagement, the course can be designed to offer achievement badges to learners or incorporate game elements into certain aspects of the course. Creative design and motivational skills from the instructor can significantly enhance the effectiveness of any eLearning course.

The ‘How’ of doing this by seeking feedback, analysing data, and learners’ responses. For example: 1. You may come across some interesting questions that weren’t covered in details in the course- thus you could add these in the revised version of the same course. 2. While going through the feedbacks, you may find some gaps in content and expectation- you can then work on those gaps. 3. While going through the data, you discover that most of your learners belong to a specific age group - you could then add more relevant scenarios in the revised course. There can be many other examples of reflection. The crux of this approach is that you must stay invested in your course.

One thing I found helpful is knowing who your customer is. The more you are able to relate to their "pains" the better your course content will be. For example, to inspire our customers about the importance of continuous learning is to show how our software can help them overcome their customer objections.

I completely agree with this list of necessary skills and it begs the question of why these skills are not required at some higher education institutions? Why is only subject matter expertise considered sufficient? It is doing a terrible disservice to the student body when the instructor knows less than their students about basic operation and functions of learning management systems or best practices for delivering online instruction, especially to diverse students. Not everyone knows how to learn online and if the instructor doesn’t know how to teach online, what is the point of having them do so?
