I believe that the main challenge is the ability to transparently interconnect public cloud with private cloud resources, offering a single point of control, with the ability to automate provisioning and being able to repatriate or send cloud the workloads without services interruption. It is important to have a small group to provide traditional services for the hardware maintenance, purchase and upgrades form the most of application and platform teams. The bimodal operation should be split at this level and not affect the application development and innovation.

As I mentioned earlier, every cloud architecture is a hybrid cloud architecture. If you break any application, there are going to be 1) Front End User through mobile and web (2 networks, 2 UI designs) 2) Authentication. Enterprise for internal users and third-party for external users. 3) Presentation layer and caching at multiple levels. 4) Transition data, transaction data, analytical data lake and Master Data. This means there can be no digital transformation without a hybid cloud. Some part of the system, user, data, authentication and cache would stay in private or public based on the merits of the provider.

Hybrid, is not a line we can draw just by hosting the compute and storage. It is a multi-dimension split. Multi-cloud, SaaS, and PaaS are all hybrid in nature. One should respect the waterfall; agile project management is also a hybrid dimension. So, Hybrid is always an integral part, and enterprise architects should take all these into consideration when recommending a digital transformation.

Hybrid isn't just a technical play, in my opinion, it effects delivery and people to. You have the on premise team or org doing what they do best, then you have the public cloud team delivering (hopefully!) In an agile / cloudy way...it causes and creates a conundrum around people and process... queue discussion of course...
