You can make a strong business story based on what your customers say. It tells you what your audience likes (positive comments) and what they think you could do better (negative comments). If you know what their hopes and problems are, you can make your story more relatable and earn their trust. It's not enough, though, to just get comments. Actively listen, sort the information by type of customer, and then turn what you learn into things you can do. Test your story often and make changes based on the results to make sure it connects with your audience and brings in and keeps customers.

In my experience, "Insights" need to have an unbiased view when they are consumed and attachment (or maybe even arrogance) to the current state is what needs to be shed. The old adage of "Customer is the king" does hold even today in spite of noise and agendas that can divert the core of it, sometimes! On other hand, I have seen that some of the most critical insights and Eureka moments may not come at all from consumers/customers but from ecosystem, competition or even a parallel industry with similar model (that may not be obvious at first). Catching on to that "what" can drastically change the "how" from marketing messaging perspective.

Listen to what people are saying on social media, read reviews, and interact with customers directly through Q&As and user-generated material. 3. Don't wait for trends to hit—use research and social listening to predict them and place your brand as a leader. 4. Map your customer journey to understand their wants at every stage and tailor your story accordingly. 5. Combine feedback with data to build a story that taps into their emotions and values. 6. Partner with CX for a smooth feedback loop and explore creative forms like video testimonials to keep your story fresh!

Fundamentally, it's a need to "belong" to a product, cause or lifestyle that will in some way build this connection. The stories need to evoke this sense of belongingness. Today the consumers are more informed, and we would be challenging their maturity, if the messaging is on information (particularly in complex buying behavior paradigms) only. The customer is smart enough to do the research; it is the emotional message around connection that will make a difference between brand being in the consideration set or not.

One thing that I have found useful in driving a competitive edge is to drive our focus away from a most abused element of USP (which may fail to recognize) to actually looking at answering the question as to "why we exist as a brand?", "what are the problems I am trying to solve for my customers through the products or services?" and above all "what is it that can make the experience better for even the solid proponents of my product or service?". All these can actually help bring in an outside-in perspective into our marketing messaging and really distinguish ourselves in a crowded market.
