Seriously this is one of the important parts with outreach if you don’t have any idea why you are calling someone how the heck could you actually think that you are able to help them?? But this goes even further back then then defining your goals. Because this cut through to the core of your value proposition if you don’t have that in place, you are lost if you have that, you can at least try to make sure that you are following the best advice you can give.

In my industry it is exceptionally common for my potential clients to be using my services with a competitor. 1. My typical cold calling technique starts out with research into my competitors to determine which are delivering either poor results, or pricing that is out of line with their results. 2. Once I have targeted a competitor, I leverage tools that I have built to curate and develop lists. 3. With a developed list, I typically take the time to determine if I might know any of the businesses on the list, or if I have clients that might offer me an introduction. 4. From there, I am able to cull my list down to a reasonable number of targeted accounts, while also offering myself a higher chance of closing.

You should prepare a script that covers the main points of your conversation, such as the introduction, the hook, the value proposition, the qualification, and the call to action. However, you should also be flexible and adapt your script to the situation and the prospect's response. You should use open-ended questions, benefits, and stories to engage your prospects and uncover their needs.

So then you have the script. This is also one of the things that I find to be off at most waste of mental capacity. That is not to say that it is not essential to get good results. I always OK that was a lie. I tried to often write down the whole script in front of me then tweak it a bit write it down again and then when I am ready to start calling people, I throw my script away. A coworker asked me how do you remember what to say and my response was I don’t remember what to say. I know my value proposition and I am capable of asking questions to assess if they have the problem that means I can go into call, not remembering anything because I, know how to help them

When I started my first BDR role I had a script and I used to pitch to the prospect but as time went by I believe prospects can sense its a robotic pitch from your first few words. So now I have my pitch in the back of my mind but I believe in having conversations and asking open ended questions to understand their organization and pain points they face.

I like to develop multiple scripts and messaging upfront prior to starting a campaign, as well as develop multiple strategies regarding who and how you will target your prospects. You must be able to adapt quickly, learn to listen to feedback from your team members, and be willing to collaborate to gain different perspectives of what's working and what's not working. This has always been the model that works best for me and the teams I've been a part of - especially those that have had the most success.

I have seen people changing their cold call pattern like they do change clothes each day. I do not think its the right approach. I believe you should have a larger sample size, i.e understand how your cold call script is working for at least a month and if it doesn't then reflect on what is lacking, ask for feedbacks with the people who has better success. Based on this you can improve day by day.

Many of the clients I've worked with over the years struggle with the follow-up process and because of that, they end up leaving countless opportunities on the table. The follow-up process should be easier and more natural than the cold outreach itself, but for whatever reason it's like pulling teeth for many people to do follow-up. I highly recommend you integrate a strategic follow-up process into your campaigns and ensure that it is seen through its entirety. This is sometimes the "low-hanging fruit" that we speak of in sales and prospecting and can result in much easier conversions and sales than starting from scratch. The last thing I'll mention is that your approach should always be personalized, customized, and not generic.

Lets say the prospect is busy when you called, then instead of saying that ill call you later then, ask them if a particular time is okay for a call. So when you call them back at that time you can mention your previous conversation hence it being a slightly warm lead. If this did not happen then keep a specific days gap between calling the prospect so that he doesn't get irritated.

There is so much value in the follow up and most companies never or rarely do it in a good way I see the most idiotic examples of a client of mine that came in, and he said his manager was complaining so much about the amount of leads that we have had been producing And I could not understand anything and the customer was quite unhappy then I asked how many 300 leads that I knew he had gotten was good or not and he said that he had called 12 of them and it was not a good fit so he did not bother calling the rest…??
