Some use cases of GNNs: In social networks, GNNs can help identify related users and recommend friends or content by analyzing the patterns of connections between users. GNNs can be used to model molecular structures, where nodes represent atoms and edges represent chemical bonds. GNNs can improve recommendation systems by considering not just the individual preferences of users but also how products are related to each other.

When I first came across graph neural networks a few years ago, I was amazed by their flexibility. Taking a few steps back, it's worth noting that graphs are quite a flexible data structure. You can use them to model many problems and knowledge bases. It only boils down to the semantics of the nodes, the connections between them, and the potential "roads" you can cross in the network, either directed or undirected. Neural networks built on graphs inherit part of the flexibility. For example, you can feed a graph through a network. But also, you can make the graph move in the direction of the connections for K steps, and feed it at each iteration. This is one example, however, the ability of graphs to model learning problems is impressive.

During my current work at Nvidia, I heavily use cutting-edge NAS techniques to find next best novel architectures for LLMs. I have firsthand experience seeing how effective and efficient NAS is in identifying architectures that have the best trade-off between latency and accuracy of the model.
