Ideally an LCA can be performed based on costs, concept and then detailed design based on availability of information. Tool selection is critical because of the availability of data. EPD’s are relevant but not all materials have EPD’s. Availability of sustainable assemblies in tools can assist designers and builders to make an informed and easy decision on material selection. Align with LCA tools, use of BIM tools is also beneficial to perform an LCA.

The quality of your data is just as important as choosing the correct LCA tool, for your specific needs. Without a detailed database, you run the risk of 'greenwashing' and aggregating misleading or incomplete reports.
