In my view this is best done through a personal account vs a company account.

For such investors a COP not only brings qualified supply, but also the ability to piggyback on the DD that your partner has already done. This saves time and effort, though might constrain one to terms that have been pre agreed.

It's important the PE to have clear targets which meet the investor's requirements and also to shortlisted the sectors and sizes of investment opportunities.

Getting to source investment opportunities outside of the beaten path or outside of areas with deep price competition requires differentiated pre and post acquisition capabilities. In my mind they mostly revolve around two types of capabilities - i) in depth sector expertise and ii) the ability to actually add value post acquisition (while most PE firms say they do, only a few stand the test of time and actually deliver on this dimension)

My involvement in secondary market transactions has often led to investments with lower risk profiles and established revenue streams (b) Keep an eye on developments in academic and research institutions. I've sourced several promising investments by staying connected with leading universities and research labs (c) Position yourself as a thought leader through publishing articles, speaking at events, or participating in panel discussions. This approach has enhanced my visibility in the investment community, often leading to exclusive investment opportunities.

(a) If you have a social or environmental agenda, explore impact investing. It allows you to generate financial returns while making a positive impact on society. My involvement in renewable energy projects is a testament to the potential of impact investing (b) Opportunities may not always align with your timeline. It's essential to be patient and seize opportunities when the timing is right, even if it means waiting for the perfect moment (c) Not all investments will succeed. Embrace failures as learning experiences. Analyze what went wrong and apply those lessons to future opportunities. My own setbacks have been invaluable in shaping my investment strategy.
