What are the most effective ways to show initiative in your teaching role?

In order to take initiative in one's teaching role, it is essential to remain focused and present within one's classroom. Remove as many distractions as possible from the workplace and work environment. Ask the students questions, in addition to observing their work. Collaborate with others to gain an understanding of the educational dynamics at the school and in the classroom before determining where the gaps are and before promoting solutions. Read academic journals and familiarize oneself with current research and solutions to help identify and mitigate needs in the classroom.

Read and discover more about your teaching role and goal, and be proactive in revising content and style to reflect learning needs. Regular evaluation of teaching and content will help identify areas needing improvement. Learn to be spontaneous but thoughtful, don't be afraid of change, and consider students who ask thought-provoking questions as assets for growth and innovation.

Taking initiative is an important characteristic of a successful teacher. I have to mention that I've never taught a class. I am trying to teach the country how to reform its schools. How to show initiative is my constant question. Our schools are getting worse all the time. Not only that, there is a numbness or a passivity throughout the land. So I am constantly challenging the public, why don't you care, why don't you get involved, why don't you learn more about what's going on? I'm going to write a podcast in a few days addressed to students, urging them not to trust their own school system, which I claim is doing a less than mediocre job. That's my same message to the general public. But why should they believe me? So I always want to find new ways of explaining our school crisis.

I intentionally enrolled for several continuous professional development courses and workshops for more effectiveness in class, career and life.

A standard "stakeholder" analysis is a little strange in academia, but it is still instructive. So as a teacher, who are our "customers?" As teachers, our primary customers include students, parents, and our institutions. A good first step is to put ourselves in the shoes of each customer and think about what we would want. But there's no substitute for actually talking with them, and getting their input. It's also worthwhile to seek feedback from peers, who have unique insights into the challenges of teaching, as well as experience trying new things to succeed. Finally, it's important to interpret feedback carefully. Students in particular may have a much better view of the short term, rather than what is best for them in the long run.

Taking feedback from students on the teaching and the content really helps to capture their learning experience (there are many fun ways to gather feedback, you can check out links on edutopia). It's also important to read, analyse and find trends in the feedback. Present that data to students and also include the plan ahead incorporating the feedback.

In my school we do this ,every related subject teacher goes to the relevant subject teacher and gives feedback and suggestions to the relevant teacher

I have had great experiences collaborating with colleagues, across a wide range. Examples: - As an invited guest lecturer, I taught a pre-law class how to perform a SWOT analysis, which is central to developing any good strategy; - I hosted Professors from American Studies and Sociology, in a freshman seminar I developed as an introduction to the intersection of ethics and finance, for a public discussion of various controversial topics (mildly terrifying); - I was invited to a Sociology class to have another public exchange, again about controversial topics (even more terrifying). It works really well if the participants engage in good faith, and are willing to hear positions that don't conform to their prior intuitions.

I am always trying to collaborate and contribute. I put articles all over the place. Sometimes I send a note to a VIP and suggest we could work together. But I'm continually frustrated by the fact that Republicans and conservatives, my nominal allies, don't know how to fight, or don't want to fight. Everyone knows the term RINO. Well, the people who should be improving and protecting our schools turn out to be EINO's. Educators In Name Only. All of my articles are intended to help parents to protect their children from the school system. We are said to have 25 million functional illiterates. This is huge destruction. Do you see anyone in Congress expressing rage or shame?

Every year I make space for passion projects to emerge & to provide educators with meaningful leadership opportunities that emerge from what matters to them & aligns with the school mission & vision. I give them a chance to say - yes, let’s! And then I make space for them to lead & I carefully watch who observes as a leader & how they lead. It is a strategic opportunity for me as a leader to delegate innovation & to imbue with teacher passion, motivation & engagement. I also make space for the power of yet - for teacher to come with ideas & rather than saying no - I say - not yet! And engage them to help me find the yet.

Innovation and experimentation in teaching can be helpful - within any course, maybe trying new exercises, incorporating AI tools, or testing for understanding in new ways; - within a group of courses, potentially developing a stronger throughline that ties them together, or updating them to keep up with changes in technology; - or even developing completely new courses to address emerging topics or new industry demand. Remember to assess the results carefully each time you try something new. And don't be afraid to innovate; it may not always work out perfectly, but we always learn something, and it's the best path to improvement and excellence.

Another way to show initiative is to experiment and innovate with your teaching practice, and evaluate the results. For example, you might try out a new strategy, technology, or approach in your classroom, and collect data, feedback, or evidence to measure its effectiveness. Or, you might create or adapt a curriculum, assessment, or resource that meets the needs and interests of your students, and aligns with the standards and goals of your school or system. By doing this, you demonstrate your curiosity, your flexibility, and your ability to solve problems.

Learning is a wiggly journey which evolves in unexpected ways. Teachers valuably show initiative by being alert to the non-linear journey taken, responding to it creatively. Following your gut about the necessary (rather than prescribed) next step is beneficial for embedding concepts or for coming at them from fresh perspectives to enable learner progress. Sometimes learning can become a predestined entity with schemes dictating what a learner will encounter each day of each week. Taking the initiative to break away from a pre-planned sequence of outcomes, according to learner need, can reap great benefits. Following the spirit of 'initiative' can also fire up professional excitement & passion, both of which impact positively on learners.

Case questions relevant to the topic in question especially as they relate to real life events or predictions will keep students interested and ensure participation

We all need thought leaders to pilot & push the envelope. Leaning in & being willing to be the model or lab classroom with intensive professional learning & coaching, being an early adopter shows your teacher leadership & initiative.

Personal spiritual induction. Deep interest based on talent which I firstly have to reveal in each pupil. Expertise of a professor every student can feel and follow the vibration.

The main way I try to inspire is to express everything as simply as possible. If you look at promotions from the educational orgs, you realize it's just words. I try to show the methods used to dumb down the schools, the dates when we reached a certain stage of decline, what various people said about this decline. A recent podcast is titled "How far do we let the schools fall?" I try to let people understand precisely what went wrong and how we knew that from the beginning. Sight-words at 50 per year, or whatever the goal is in any school, equals only a few hundred words at the end of elementary school. That's for the better students, after huge effort. What can you read with this tiny vocabulary? You are illiterate. Don't you care??

I agree & I think this is where establishing your own mission, vision & core values as an educator comes in. You can do this with your extracurricular professional endeavors & professional development choices. You can also do this with your social media posts & presence.

I have learned to love the profession by way of pedagogy. Learning about the foundations, the science, the institutions that have evolved and developed into our educational system today solidified my desire to teach. I wanted to create, ignite, inspire and encourage learning to the children I would someday teach. I wanted for them what my professors had did for me; The will to love learning from the very start. I chose Elementary/Early Childhood Education specifically for those reasons. One of the ethical characteristics of a teacher is to have a passion for it. This mental note helps in those moments when all else fails.

Make it personal: show why you care and how your vision or idea could be used for the benifit of all. And find yourself coworkers or other persons of interest for support. No one can carry the world on just two shoulders ??
