-talk to your stakeholders to identify which data they are looking for, or what answers they seek then determine which data they are looking for -BUILD A DASHBOARD. It’s fascinating to me that no LMS has a teacher dashboard to follow students and coursework. They half put it in through features in a gradebook or a student summary, but it would be more poignant to automate the process of identifying students in need and directing the teacher there.

A Training Needs Analysis (TNA), comprising Audience Analysis, Job Role Analysis, Task Analysis, and so on, should be the first step for this. Once we have this raw data, a blueprint of the next steps can be formulated. The next steps can be to roll out surveys to understand the top parameters that the main stakeholders - such as, leadership, instructors and subject matter experts and managers would like to track through learning analytics.

Data and metrics can be generated automatically through usage of particular LMS-es, such as Cornerstone and KMI. However, again considering the fact that this is raw data, it will need to be modified, segregated and categorised, as per the stakeholder requirements. It is very important that this data is tailored and structured according to specific stakeholder needs, so that it adds maximum value.

Some strategies and solutions I've used: - Assess stakeholder preferences; whether visual (slide decks, reports) or more interactive (dashboards). - Consider accessibility and make sure all stakeholders can access your chosen medium, even colors and fonts used. - Consider complexity of data. This is crucial especially if you will be having a short meeting to accommodate schedules. - Think about frequency/cadence of updates. It may be that a dashboard that can be updated will suffice for your goals or your stakeholders want to see documented progress. - Make sure that data speaks to business goals. This is crucial, especially if your stakeholders will use this data as part of their reporting and business decisions.
