It allows people who know the game to be able to find the bugs, and it keeps everyone excited to work on the project. You can have a monster QA effort, but, if there aren't thorough GDDs, code reviews, dev playtests, etc., no amount of functional testing will cover all the possible testing permutations. Get your testers embedded with your development pods. Including QA from concept through integration can mitigate much of your feature risk and take pressure off your functional and RC testing. Detailed reproduction steps (always assume the tester might not be familiar with the game) ? Supporting visuals like videos, GIFs, or screenshots – often more illustrative than words alone ? The actual results observed ? The expected results, if known by the person reporting the issue.

Bug tickets not only participate from being well written, Bug ticket writers, or whoever is responsible need to be aware that these tickets are always being worked on, some way or the other, and regressions, questions, enquiries, demands may arise. A Bug ticket is well written + the author is there to solve your doubts and help you iron out the flaws towards quality.

Pictures, videos, a very detailed walkthrough all helps. Something which seems simple and easy to understand to you, isn't always as it seems to others. The more information you give and provide, the easier it is to reproduce and fix. Code is beautiful in the fact it can do so much with a single line but it's terrible in the fact it can create another problem where it fixes another. If needed jump on a teams or google call and share your screen and do it together, developers appreciate the help and sometimes are just frustrated due to their high workloads.

Try innovative ways to document your evidences, maybe the video software that you are using creates archives that are too heavy? just switch to a GIF recorder instead! Evidences need documenting and explaining.

From my years as a test/QA lead, the stereotypical image of a tense relationship between developers and QA professionals doesn’t match my experience. Every developer I’ve collaborated with, past and present, genuinely values having QA on the team. This is because QA aids developers in enhancing the quality of their deliveries and minimizes the stress of addressing issues in a live environment, where fixes can be costly and stressful. Respect is fundamental, and it’s a two way street. We must always have in mind that we’re all working towards the same objective.

It's a great idea to present the bug from the player's perspective. It keeps the focus on the end user. When giving bug feedback, take the emotion out. It should read as a technical report (which it is).

Communication is key, most developers know the bugs are not a reflection of their work and just the wider picture. Be human and if you can, make the situation humorous. I found a bug once which made my character lose their clothes and it better to find the funny side of a situation then make it seem like the end of the world. Where you fix one problem, it normally creates another and this is the beauty of working with code. It's tougher then you expect and it's not a simple and easy fix. Be clear, be constructive and be respectful.

Be a social individual, know your team, work with your team, listen in the meetings, show your presence on software in order to build and improve your relationship towards the game, the team, the company as a whole, we all benefit from being stellar, as erosive as it may result sometimes.

I'm more a fan of a centralized bug tracking system, as opposed to bug reporters tracking their own bugs. Basically, a bug is reported and saved to a central bug tracking list. Developers fix the bug and report it fixed. The QA team will go back and verify the bug is fixed before it is closed out and marked as fixed. It should be tagged with the commit or release version as well, in case the game is rolled back. Finally, during the last testing phase before release, bugs should be revisited to ensure that later changes did not bring them back. Bugs should also be triaged by devs or QA into different categories of prioritization. That way, if there is limited time to handle them, QA leads can prioritize their work.

Test, Report and Test. Where you fix one problem, another is normally created. Give as much detail as possible or even record a short video to show them, too much information never hurts. Most of our team play our products for free in their spare time, personally I find more bugs out of work then in work due to a change in environment and it's hits differently playing in your spare time then in a working environment. Games will always have bugs, you will never have a 100% polished product and QA is one of those areas which takes time and isn't solved in a corporate timescale.
