VC's are completely non-commital because even a few days or weeks gives them signs on progress of the company and they want as many signs as possible. Once you realise this, you have to make sure the VC is giving you clear next steps to help manage them along. The most important thing to do is to fundraise when you're ready to. VCs fear two things, 1. Missing investing in something that takes off and 2. Investing in something that doesn't. If you get them to believe you're one, they will move quickly.

The process of investing is actually quite simple. However the convincing part is difficult. It’s not all XLS sheets. Data proves that you may be profitable. However the gut feel , network , previous experience and expertise of the investor is finally what counts. Apart from the process always keep in mind that the investor / VC has a choice to invest across categorises and not only your business vertical. Investors construct their investment thesis from their own motivation that is sparked by the belief that your company is going to return their entire fund multiple times. Of course manage your emotions but don’t be a card player. It is good to be emotional. Emotions is what drives an entrepreneur. I would love to invest in entrepreneurs who are emotional that makes them work 24*7.

In my personal experience, an investment pitch to a VC is great education for a founder. During an investment pitch, they talk about what problem the company is solving, the market, competition, USP, growth roadmap and the expected financial metrics. To masterfully explain all of the above, before execution, requires a lot of brainstorming. The companies who successfully raise funds, are usually the ones who have been rejected many times. Feedback is key to keep growing.

Negotiating with VC is just a subset of conversing with them. And conversations are truly a throw-and-catch type of sport. To be impatient is the same as being a person attempting to throw when the ball hasn't even been caught first.
