What are the most effective ways to promote and support farmer adoption of conservation agriculture?
Conservation agriculture (CA) is a set of practices that aim to enhance soil health, reduce erosion, save water, and increase crop productivity and resilience. CA is based on three principles: minimal soil disturbance, permanent soil cover, and crop diversification. CA has been widely promoted as a sustainable agriculture approach, especially in regions facing land degradation, climate change, and food insecurity. However, CA adoption by farmers remains low in many contexts, due to various technical, social, and economic challenges. In this article, we will explore some of the techniques and challenges of CA, and discuss how to support and encourage farmers to adopt CA practices.
