What are the most effective ways to organize your writing during editing?

Before you start fixing your writing, it's helpful to organize your thoughts into groups or themes. You can do this in different ways, like making lists, drawing diagrams, or using colors. Sorting your ideas helps you see the big picture and find any missing pieces. It also makes it easier to change or improve your writing later on.

During editing, organize your writing effectively by outlining the content for logical flow and structure, using headings and subheadings, bullet points, or a linear outline. Use these tools to break up the text and enhance readability. Remove unnecessary information and ensure consistency in style, tone, and formatting. Utilize transitions to connect ideas smoothly. Additionally, use formatting tools such as bold, italics, or color to highlight key points for presentation and accessibility. Lastly, seek feedback from others to gain fresh perspectives and identify areas for improvement.

I always work from an outline, so I place my headings and subheadings before I even begin writing. This helps to ensure that I've worked out the best flow before I even begin, and it makes it easier to write the article because I know what comes next. If you handle some of the basic structure up front, it will lead to a piece of writing that's easier to read and understand.

I do use Grammerly, but I don't always accept it, it is just a guide. Sometime writing doesn't follow exact rules or tool for effect. And technical writing needs it's own special review, but online tools are a good starting point. Having it read aloud is the biggest help in catching misspellings, or words that are actual words, but not the word you wanted to use.
