In my view, the key to incentivizing candidates for a talent pipeline isn't just in regular follow-ups; it's in creating a sense of community and belonging. Personalized communication is important, but going beyond that to invite candidates to webinars, company events, or online forums can make a real difference. This approach helps candidates feel connected to your company culture and values, even before they join. Additionally, I believe in providing value through these interactions, like career advice or industry insights, rather than just updates about the company. This nurtures a relationship where candidates see a future with your organization, not just a job opportunity.

I’ve never been convinced that the juice was worth the squeeze on this one. Why are we investing time effort and energy into cultivating candidate relationships for some theoretical future need? Those resources could better be deployed on filling current open roles quicker, and on building out more responsive talent plans to anticipate future growth areas. IMHO it’s better to think about this holistically: are we going to build / buy / rent talent vs spending time cultivating talent that we may or may not want to ‘buy’ in the future

Quality pipelines are two way. You want the best talent for your organisation, and the talent wants the best organisation for their needs. So focus on TRANSPARENCY, and DETAIL on 1. What's required for the company 2. What's in it for them. Don't fear of putting people off with this level of detail - that's a good thing. You don't want people in your pipeline who don't like what they hear, as ultimately you've only made the mistake if you hire them and find this out later.

A well-crafted talent pipeline leads to cost savings and a more efficient hiring process in the long run. Since the business always asks - what is TA doing to ensure a competitive edge in the talent market? TA leaders need to know what incentives will garner attention for the org to differentiate it from the folks across the street. You then need to make the incentive easy to understand to potential candidates. As an initial measure, a successful talent pipeline should yield a strong pool of potential hires to replace a % of established 'churn' / 'always on' org recruitment needs. Keep in mind that the days of not posting jobs online and TA teams hiring exclusively from their talent pipeline remains only a dream to many of us.
