As much as you want to remain relevant in your industry, you need to be aware of the weak signals and new entrants, competitors and consumers. PESTLE and SWOT analysis would help you to have an insightful details of the current environment and what response should you deploy to stay on top of your game.

Let's think differently for a moment. To truly identify threats to our innovation process, we must first embrace a mindset of relentless curiosity and unwavering focus. It's not just about what we see, but how deeply we observe. We need to listen to the whispers of the future, anticipating trends before they become trends. Surround yourself with a team that challenges conventions, constantly probing for weaknesses in our ideas. Embrace failure as a learning opportunity, for therein lies the path to improvement. Lastly, strip away the noise to uncover the essence of our innovation, making it resilient against even the most unforeseen threats. In essence, it's about staying hungry, staying foolish, and always staying one step ahead.

One omnipresent threat is the possibility that someone may do it better and faster than you. As long as you are aware of this possibility and are working to avoid it, yout are doing 90% of the legwork. Rest as they say is easy...

Unless one has a large bank account or owns their own company, the likelihood of getting it into the market can be daunting. In countries similar to China etc, product design and manufacture has always been a case of design, make and sell. Yet all too often countries like Britain have the market already stitched up and individual design is almost an impossible task!

To identify threats to innovation, conduct a risk assessment with internal stakeholders to map out contingencies. Interview external stakeholder to gather their insight. Encourage open internal feedback by creating a culture where teams are comfortable challenging assumptions and raising concerns. Consider falling out of scope scenarios to strengthen strategies and minimize blind spots. Taking a proactive, iterative approach involving diverse external and internal perspectives sets up your innovation process for success.

The first step is to identify who the relevant stakeholders are for the issue at hand. These can include individuals, groups, organizations, or entities that are interested in or affected by the situation. Establishing effective communication channels with stakeholders is crucial. There is no such thing as failure. You either win or you learn. And, being innovative means you are open to that possibility and you keep an open mind. It's important throughout the process to keep detailed notes (in black and white, not just in your head) of each step. Being able to look at these notes, evaluate and see at what point that things started turning unfavorable helps. Don't be afraid to pivot and refocus your tactics.

Failure gives us real and valid data regarding which is work and which is don't. While formulating the innovation, ensure that we know which one is the dependent and independent variable (just like what we do in academical research), it help us to know where to start while trying to identifying the root cause and which component that we could modify, so we could quickly back in action by starting new trial to test the efficacy of the changes we made.

Here's my most recent experience of "learning" (not "failing"): I collaborated with a physician who wanted to embed a pharmacist into his practice. This is a trending innovation in my profession and I jumped at the chance to be a front-runner. However, failure to adequately communicate goals and visions... failure to formulate a cohesive plan... failure to make sure all of the team players knew the end goal... these "failures" all became ways that remind me of what I learned during this experiment. There are other pharmacists doing this and succeeding. It takes the right physician and an accepting practice. I'm refocusing and will try this thing again, remembering the lessons learned.
